It’s by the grace of the Lord that am able to write this today 31st/12/2024 and you’re also able to read. As the clock ticks towards 2025, this year many Ugandans have died and we shall never see them again, we only pray to God to grant them Janah. In this article, we bring you a list of those prominent Ugandans who have gone to journeys of no return.
Onapito Ekomoloit: On 27th September 2024, former Member of parliament, journalist and businessman. Ona as famously known represented Amuria county in parliament, he was also once Museveni’s press secretary, a lecturer and a prominent corporate and marketing chief at different companies but spent a lot of time at the Uganda Breweries and Nile Breweries. He was laid to rest in November 2024. Read more HERE
Joseph Tamale Mirundi: The vocal former presidential press Secretary and political analyst joseph Tamale Mirundi died from Kisubi Hospital on 13th August after being bedridden for close to two months. He used to appear on several media stations; Radio, TVs and online channels. His demise left a huge gap and stations are yet to find a better replacement for the son of Mirundi. Read more HERE
Dr.Frank Nabwiso: Known to many as Busoga’s Encyclopedia, Dr Fank Nabwiso a veteran politician who represented Kagoma county in the 7th parliament died on 14th December from Namirembe Hospital in Mukono where he had been admitted to receive medication. He was an outspoken FDC member who criticized the Museveni government without fear or favor. He was laid to rest in Jinja district, Mutai. Read more HERE
Jolly Mugisha Kyomugasho: She was known to many as Jolly Mugisha, she defied odds to mobilize for Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform, she died at the age of 63 from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital on the 23rd September 2024. She was the Deputy president for NUP in Western Uganda, she was laid to rest in Mitooma district. Read More HERE
Nusura Nabukalu Juma: She was the deputy RDC for Budaka District in Eastern Uganda, she perished in a tragic accident on 29th December 2024. Nabukalu was a famous politician who raised through the ranks in the NRM party from local councils. She had a political organization dubbed Busoga Women Leaders Association (BWELA) in Jinja City at Kutch road West which mobilized support for Museveni for over 10 years. She was laid to rest at the Jinja Muslim cemetery on 30th December 2024. Read More HERE
Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi: Mateke was the woman MP for Kabale district; in Museveni’s cabinet Reshuffle in March, he moved her from the ministry of gender where she was the state minister in charge of children and youth affairs and moved her to the defense ministry as state minister for Defense and veteran affairs. She was the 5th MP to die in just two years and was a daughter to veteran politician Dr. Philemon Mateke. Read more HERE
Cecilia Ogwal Atim: The veteran politician died on 18th January from a hospital in India, her demise shocked the country and was the 4th legislator to die a space of two years after Jacob Oulanyah, Patrick Okabe and Charles Okello Engola who died previously in 2022 and 2023. Ogwal was the woman MP for Dokolo district. Read More HERE
Simon Peter Aleper: The former Moroto legislator died in a motor accident on 23rd July 2024 along the Iganga-Mbale road. At the time of his death, Aleper was NRM’s vice chairperson for Karamoja at the party’s apex body of the Central Executive Committee.
Kidu Makubuya: The former Member of parliament, minister and attorney General died on 19th August 2024. He was a celebrated law don. Makubuya had been admitted in hospital for over two months and was even announced dead on martyrs day but it later came out that he was still alive. He was laid to rest in Luwero. Read More HERE
Sarah Epenu: She was an FDC party supporter, leader and member. She died on April 8th 2024. Epenu served FDC in different positions as former Spokesperson of the women’s league and party chairperson for Kapir county constituency in Ngora district in the Teso sub-region. Read More HERE
The others who died but were not politicians include Dr Tomo Okurut former Executive Director of NEMA, Humphrey Mayanja who was singer Jose Chameleone’s eldest brother and Rebecca Cheptegei who succumbed to burn injuries at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret Kenya.
