The president has this evening named his cabinet ahead of the 2026 general elections, he retained most of his cabinet ministers and brought in some new faces.

Among those retained include Jane Ruth Aceng in Health, Betty Amongi in Gender, Jeje Odongo in foreign Affairs, Chris Baryomunsi in ICT, Frank Tumwebaze in Agriculture, Matia Kasaija in Finance, Robinah Nabbanja as Prime minister, Jesca Alupo as Vice President, and Norbert Mao in Constitutional Affairs.

The others retained as Cabinet Ministers include Milly Babirye Babalanda for Presidency, Hamson Obua as Government Chief Whip, Kasule Lumumba as Minister for General Duties, Rebecca Kadaga as 1st Deputy Prime minister, Gen Moses Ali as 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Rukia Isanga Nakadama as 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Monica Musenero for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Kahinda Otafiire remains Internal Affairs, Judith Nabakooba remains in Lands, housing and urban Development, Francis Mwebesa remains in Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Tom Butime remains in Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Katumba Wamala remains in works and Transport.

The president has however dropped Mary Goreti Kitutu the Mabaati implicated Minister for Karamoja and replaced her with Peter Lokeris who has been the State Minister for Mineral Development. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja has been dropped from the Ministry of Defense and replaced with Jacob Oboth Oboth.

He has dropped Harriet Ntabazi from Ministry of Trade, dropped Kwiyucwiny Grace Freedom, Mary Gorreti Kitutu, and Agnes Nandutu.

The president has also appointed the Chief of Defense Forces Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi as Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, events promoter Balaam Barugahara named minister of Youths and Children Affair, Lilian Aber also appointed state minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees.

The president also appointed his Principal Private Secretary Dr Keneth Omona as State Minister State minister for northern Uganda (office of the prime minister), the President has also appointed Hon Namboozo Florence Wamala the Sironko women MP as State Minister for Karamoja Affairs replacing Agnes Nanduutu who was implicated in the Mabaati scandal. Amos Lugoloobi despite being implicated in the Mabaati scandal, he has been retained as the Minister of State for Planning in the Finance Ministry.

Museveni also appointed Youth MP Phiona Nyamutoro as Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development.
