In the news this evening, Muslims across the world will start fasting tomorrow after moon was sighted today evening.
The holly month of Ramadan will start on Monday 11th March 2024. The sacred month, which sees those observing abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset, marks a period of religious reflection, family get-together and giving across the Muslim word.
Saudi state television reported authorities there saw the moon. Soon after, Gulf Arab nations largely followed the announcement to confirm they as well would start fasting on Monday. Muslims at Uganda Supreme Council at Old Kampala have also announced that fasting in Uganda would start tomorrow.

It’s however reported that some Asia-Pacific countries like Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, will begin Ramadan on Tuesday after failing to see the crescent moon. Oman, on the easternmost edge of the Arabian Peninsula, simmilarly announced Ramadan will begin on Tuesday.
On the sidelines, this year’s Ramadan comes as the Middle East remains inflamed by Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. That’s raised fear that conflict may spark unrest far beyond current boarders of the war.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had been urging the public to watch the skies from Sunday night in preparation for the sighting of the crescent moon. Ramadan works on a lunar calendar and moon-sighting methodologies often vary between countries, meaning some nations declare the start the month earlier or later but for the case of Uganda, Muslims wait for the announcement in Saudi Arabia and also announce back home.
