SOROTI: A senior police officer has again accused the minister of state for works Musa Ecweru for allegedly beating him up.
SP Musa Kayongo the Operations Commander of Anti Stock theft unit personnel who has reported the case to Soroti police alleges that the minister attacked him on 09th/03/2023 at around 5pm when he was on his way from Kampala to Karamoja.
Speaking to this website in Soroti, Afande Kayongo says the minister attacked him after his driver accident knocked some cows around Awoja bridge.
“I was using my official motor vehicle UP 7713 we were entering Awoja bridge in Soroti, the driver saw heads of cattle along the road and tried to break while dodging them but in the process one of them jumped and hit the side mirror of the patrol car.,”Afande Kayongo explained.
He added that they later proceeded but as they reached Awoja (ASTU/Traffic) check point, a vehicle with registration number plates of ministry of works came and stopped in front and all the three occupants come out at once.
“I noticed one of them as honorable minister Musa Ecwheru the state minister for works with a UPDF driver and CT body guard, as he was approaching my car, I also came out but straight away starting abusing me”-Kayongo narrates

Kayongo added that the minister asked came straight to him and asked who he was before the Superintendent of police explained himself to the minister
“I told him that I was SP Musa Kayongo the Operations Commander of ASTU, Immediately, he again abused me that am an idiot that he is going to beat me up that I don’t know his ways. He first called the three police men who were at the check point ( two for ASTU and one for traffic) and civilian person who were around telling them that these fools have knocked cows”-Kayongo explained.
“When they came around, he picked a stick from one of the civilians and hit me on my head thrice then later he told the public to work on us then he boarded his vehicle and left”-he told this publication.
Afande Kayongo says he has since opened up an assault case under SD REF: 64/09/03/23 against Minister Musa Echweru to be able to get justice.
This is not the first time state minister Musa Ecweru is accused of being rough, last year he was accused of beating up a church leader in Wera over land which was he said was belonging to the government and the school and the church was trying to claim it.
However, in a phone call with this publication, Minister Ecweru dismissed the claims by the police officer saying he was trying to escape from the case of killing animals.
“That officer if I was not be around he would have been lynched by the public it’s me who rescued him because he was over speeding and knocked three animals dead belonging to a certain lame mzee known as Okiror”- says Minister Echweru

It’s the cows which knocked the vehicle of the police officers according to the law and not the officers knocking the cows. That was ignorance of the law, why leave animals to stray on the road moreover the high way.
