In a twist of events in the National Unity platform, the party’s flag bearer for Lord Mayorship Hajji Latif Sebagala who also the incumbent MP for Kawempe north has decided to quit the race sighting unity in the opposition.
A tearful Latif Sebagala has made the announcement while addressing the media a while ago. This comes at the backdrop of accusations of the NUP elections committee side-lining legendary Musician Joseph Mayanja popularly known as Jose Chameleone who was battling the party card with Latif allegedly for being a catholic.
His announcement also has been attributed to the party’s new recruit and Mukono municipality legislator Betty Nambooze who vowed to support Lord mayor Elias Lukwago who is her long time buddy and not to support her party’s flag bearer Latif Sebagala which has caused a lot of questions in the corridors of power.
However, Latif Sebagala had previously been reported heading to the East African Legislative assembly (EALA) in the next elections. This now leaves the race with three prominet candidates: Joseph Mayanja who is set to run on an independent ticket, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on FDC ticket and NRM’s Daniel Kazibwe also known as Ragdee
