In the news this evening, National Unity Platform has cryptically fired his deputy president for Buganda Mathias Mpuuga over corruption and abuse of office.
It was earlier reported that Mpuuga was awarded some Shs500m as ‘service award’ and it also got to light that it was another corruption scandal where top parliament leaders shared cash amongst themselves despite the economy yawning and choking on debts.

In a statement released by the National Unity Platform (NUP) this evening, the party convened a meeting and asked Mpuuga about the allegations which he indeed accepted to have been part and even apologized over the same.
“Specifically our former Leader of opposition in Parliament and current parliamentary commissioner Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga alongside three other parliamentary commissioners have been accused of irregularly awarding themselves huge sums of tax payer’s money on the pretext of “Service Awards”….”reads part of the statement.
In the statement, Mpuuga was asked to step down from his parliamentary commission job where he replaced Hon Francis Zaake who was booted in a parliamentary vote in 2022.
“At the meeting, Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga admitted that he indeed took part in this wrong doing and apologized for the same. In light of this, he was strongly advised that the moral thing to do in the circumstances is to step down from his role as parliamentary commissioner with immediate effect.-the statement further reads
The Nyendo-Mukugwe member of parliament was appointed leader of opposition in May 2021 and after 2.5 years going by the precedent set by the FDC, he was last year dropped from the juicy office and replace with first time legislator and former COSASE chairperson Joel Ssenyonyi.
This is a developing story, time will tell if Mpuuga will respect the party’s position of cutting short his presence in the parliamentary commission which is the House’s top leadership body.
