Bukenya who was a Member of Parliament for Busiro North and Uganda’s 7th Vice president from 2003 to 2011 has been quiet and off the political scene since trying out some presidential ambitions with the The Democratic Alliance (TDA), an opposition party alliance ahead of the 2016 general elections. Bukenya was one of the people to pick forms for the alliance candidate but the TDA ticket was handed to former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.
Museveni has now remembered his long time friend and has appointed him to be his senior presidential advisor on Environment and Sanitation. Bukenya now joins a list of Museveni’s advisors like Salim Saleh, Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Nadduli who are special presidential advisors appointed in February last year.
Mahogany will now enjoy benefits like those of Cabinet Ministers.
