Bobi Wine Castigates Uganda Government’s Move To Ban The Red beret.

People Power Leader as well as leading opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has criticized and denounced the government’s move to ban the civilian use of red berets, a signature symbol of his People Power movement.

“This beret ban is a sham. It is a blatant attempt to suffocate a successful threat to the autocratic status quo,” the 37-year-old said.

“But People Power is more than a red beret, we are bigger than our symbol. We are a booming political movement fighting for the future of Uganda and we will continue our struggle for democracy.”

Bobi Wine’s statements comes after the news emerged from the Uganda Government lately on Monday to have decided to gazette the red beret as official military clothing that could land civilians who wear it in jail.

In a statement late on Monday, after news emerged over the government’s decision in September to designate the red beret as Military attire that could land civilians who wear it in jail, Bobi Wine called the ban a “sham”.

The red beret was included in Uganda’s first-ever gazette of all military clothing, dated on September 18. People who wear or sell the red beret and other designated pieces of military attire would be prosecuted under military law, authorities said.

“The dress code for the UPDF [Uganda People’s Defence Forces] has been gazetted. The action was endorsed by the top organs of the army which also commended the dress committee for concluding the task assigned to it years back,” army spokesman Richard Karemire said on Monday

  1. Where is #Uganda going for real?!
This sounds as a *thud* to hear that the government is the one doing such a stupid thing!!!
If they know that they still want to rule, then why do they prepare elections….
I was really hurt by what happened in HOIMA the oil city in which we hope future development!!!

If I was the President maybe and I wanted to win the opposition in elections, they I wouldn’t prepare elections… I would jhus use authority and say that this and this area are mine and let life go on…buh you prepare elections, candidates splush their money(s) in the due course of campaigns, people choose their leaders through voting, then again you use power to rig the votes through bribes, gun points…
    Yiyi…where is our Uganda heading…

    Forgive we the next generation…
H.E R.Kyagulanyi am on my knees praying for you naye titwefulira papa!!!💮🌲
