Outgoing Deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu has confessed how him and other legislators are swimming in cash at parliament which they had never got before in their entire life.
Lt Gen Peter Elwelu was dropped by president Museveni and appointed Senior Presidential Advisor another position that comes with a hefty salary of Shs17m. He joins other dropped ministers Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempija and Harriet Ntabazi. Therefore this means Elwelu will collect three salaries from the army, from parliament and from state house.

He was replaced by Lt Gen Sam Okiding who was picked from the African Transition Mission In Somalia (ATMIS) where he was the commander.
Elwelu is one of the 10 army representatives in parliament but very silent on the floor of parliament unlike those who are appointed ministers like Gen Katumba Edward Wamala the minister of Works and Transport and Gen David Muhoozi the junior minister for Internal Affairs. Both are former CDFs.
Former CDF Wilson Mbasu Mbadi who is also an army MP was also appointed junior minister for Trade, Industry and Coporatives. He’s been vetted today by parliament’s appointment committee headed by Speaker Anita Among. Now all three former Chiefs of Defense Forces (CDFs) in a row Katumba Wamala, David Muhoozi and Wilson Mbadi will all sit in parliament and Cabinet.
Now speaking at Gadafi Barracks at the Army’s Wazalendo SACCO Annual General Meeting, Elwelu revealed how going to parliament has unlocked his fortunes and made him touch money he has never touched in his life, not even in the army. He reveals that as a result of being a member of parliament, he has even got a chance of getting a loan which he has not even used.
"In @Parliament_Ug , there's some good money. I had never got a loan, but because of @Parliament_Ug , I got one which I've never used. So, I said, in these five years, let me get something because there's some eating there. The money I touch in @Parliament_Ug, I've never touched… pic.twitter.com/Vonkks71Mz

He was elected to parliament in January 2021 with other 9 people including three women. The others in parliament representing the army include; Col Dr Victor Nekesa, Lt Col Charity Bainababo, Maj Dr Jennifer Alanyo, Gen David Muhoozi, Gen Katumba Wamala, Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, Lt Gen James Mugira, Maj Gen Henry Matsiko and Maj Gen Sam Kavuma.
The words of Lt Gen Peter Elwelu comes at a time when parliament is under scrutiny and spotlight for corruption and misuse of tax payer’s money especially Speaker of Parliament whom junior staff have been receiving billions of cash on her behalf in the pretext of Corporate Social Responsibility which her blue eyed boy Chris Obore admitted to.
