The country was thrown in a somber mood when the long serving Dokolo Women Member of parliament succumbed to cancer from an Indian hospital where she had been rushed just after Christmas of last year 2023.
She was mourned for a full week and later buried on 27th January 2024 at Dog-Gudu in Kole Town Council in Kole district. As a family following past precedence, agreed to forward her eldest daughter Dr Alwoc Austin Ogwal Rosemary on the FDC ticket in the by election held yesterday.

People of Dokolo went to the polls and voted in large numbers and in an expected turn of events UPC’s Sarah Aguti emerged winner with 23044 votes, followed by NRM’s Adongo Janet Rose who got 14001 votes and FDC’s Ogwal came third with 8168 votes.
The other candidates in the race included NUP’s Ageno Harriet got 727 votes, Arao Rebecca (Independent) got 439 votes while Akullo Esther Obot (Independent) got 790 votes. The other candidate Grace Hanna Lalam who is also the NRM district Chairperson was forced out of race and appointed RDC.

This is the second time in a period of one year that Lango is rejecting a child of a deceased Member of Parliament. It was in Oyam North where the son to the late Lt Col Charles Engola was rejected in the by election last year and UPC’s Dr Eunice Otuko. UPC Seems to be taking its place back in the Lango region ahead of the 2026 general elections.
