How Teso Leaders Turned Against Museveni

Unlike democratically grown countries in the world where the president seeks another term while still the president, it’s a different issue in Uganda, in Most African countries but Uganda in particular for this case.  A president seeks another term while still serving as president.
For the past general elections, president Museveni has been doing the same, he’s a contestant of the position he’s already serving, he uses state machinery as president unlike his other counterparts in the same race.
However voters in the Teso region think this should change as soon as possible, they suggest the president should resign from the position three months to the elections to give a good atmosphere in the race for presidency.
The angry voters were giving their views on the Electoral reforms which were tabled in parliament a month ago. This was during the regional consultations on the bills held on Tuesday in Soroti town
Nasur Muhammad, District councilor representing Eastern Division of Soroti Municipality in Soroti District says the president should resign 90 days prior to elections to prevent him from using government funds for his campaigns.
Similarly, Joshua Odongo a resident in Soroti town says when the president resigns, he will not have powers to use the army and police to intimidate his opponents during campaigns.
In the proposed amendment, a person is eligible to stand as an independent candidate if he/she is not a member of a registered party and should have ceased to be member of parliament 12 months before nomination.
The Soroti LC V chairperson urged the team doing inquiries on the proposed bills to accept some views sent on social media platforms because some contain sense and relevant to the development and creating of such policies.
Hon. Denis Obua Hamson, the head of the delegation that’s inquiring in the region says the views of the people of Teso region will be submitted to parliament.
The Attorney General, William Byaruhanga tabled the controversial electoral bills which included the Presidential Elections (Amendment) Bill No.17, 2019, Parliamentary Elections (Amendment) Bill No.18, 2019, Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill No. 19, 2019, P. Parties & Org (Amendment) Bill No. 20, 2019, Local Govts (Amendment) Bill No.21, 2019  which the speaker Kadaga forwarded the five  to the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee for scrutiny and present a report to parliament which is on a country wide inquiry to make consultations.
