The National Unity Platform (NUP) has been in a heated exchange with those who support former Leader of Opposition in parliament and now commissioner of parliament Hon Mathias Mpuuga over a controversial payment he got last year while he still serving as LoP.
According to the documents leaked, Mpuuga and three other commissioners of parliament shared Shs1.7billion amongst themselves as Service Awards. Quizzed in a party meeting convened by their party leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Mpuuga is said to have admitted to got this money and even apologized.

The party strongly advised him to resign but he rejected this proposal. Deputy party president Dr Lina Zedriga Walu convened a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party headquarters which Mpuuga snubbed despite being invited. According to a notice signed by Zedriga, Mpuuga was told to write an explanation in just 7 days and failure to do so will cause further action of recalling him from the parliamentary commission.
Now speaking on the sidelines of the Silver Jubilee cerebrations of St Jude Lukaya Parish in Kalungu district, Ssenyonyi hit at his predecessor for playing hide and seek and failure to address the real issues he’s being accused of and instead opt to address other matters.
Ssenyonyi who succeeded Mpuuga last year on 22nd December 2023 said the party’s renewed fight against corruption will not shy away on any one regardless. He says as long as the party gets evidence, they will squarely deal with that corrupt person.
The Leader of Opposition further says it’s bad to hide behind the Kabaka to seek immunity from scrutiny because Kabaka has never sent any one to steal tax payer’s money.
“We say that for every person we get concrete evidence, we shall do what we are meant to do and you’ve seen on the issue of Hon Mathias Mpuuga because we got evidence and even himself admitted, we say this is wrong, we should not cover this under the guise of people abusing the Kabaka, let’s not get into stories, just answer the questions people are asking you about the money, don’t hide behind the Kabaka, Kabaka has never sent anyone to steal tax payer’s money, let’s not shame him and the Kingdom, let’s answer questions which Uganda’s are asking”-Ssenyonyi furiously hit at Mpuuga
Parliament headed by speaker Anita Among is currently under fire for orchestrating a well coordinated line of transaction defrauding the tax payer of expenditures on non-existent employees and activities. At the instigation of the Uganda Parliament Exhibition, a lot of documents have leaked regarding the extravagant expenditure by Speaker Anita Among which parliament has since admitted to some.
