The president of Ugandan Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa today revealed that he had signed the Anti-homosexuality bill into law making it officially the Anti-homosexuality act 2023, it comes with tough penalties including death penalty, life imprisonment, heavy fines for those convicted on charges related to homosexuality.
it becomes one of the toughest laws in the land and would make the life of homosexuals very difficult and a risk to practice it in Uganda.
Speaker Anita Among after confirming that the bill is now a law tasked police and all other law enforcing bodies to arrest and prosecute all homosexuals wherever they are in Uganda. [read story here]
Amidst the rage condemning the bill especially from the western powers, organizations and activists, it’s been reported that Speaker Anita Among’s US and UK visas were revoked in retaliation to her contribution in pushing for this law. [read story here]
A group of activists just like they did in 2014 have since petitioned the constitutional court to halt the implementation of the law and also shoot it down to cut shorte the excitement of Ugandans regarding the bill which they say would protect the family and children who were quickly being recruited into homosexuality.

Now the president of the United States, Joe Biden has condemned Ugandan government over the Anti-homosexuality act and called upon authorities to do everything possible to revist it and revoke it because it’s not fit for the people of Uganda.
According to Biden, this law jeopardizes the prospects of critical economic growth for Uganda as a country and it’s a gross violation of universal human rights. Biden further claims that since the bill was introduced on the floor of parliament, there have been reports of violence and discrimination of people who are or perceived to be homosexuals.

Biden in this veiled message to Museveni says the Anti-homosexuality act 2023 is one of the latest development in the human rights abuses and corruption in Museveni’s government and says the law poses serious danger to Ugandans in Uganda, US government personnel, the staff of the implementing partners, tourists, members of the business community and he has since instituted an inquiry by the US’s National Security Council to evaluate the implications of the law on all aspects of US’s further engagement with Uganda.
“I have directed my National Security Council to evaluate the implications of this law on all aspects of US engagement with Uganda, including our ability to safely deliver services under the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDs Relief (PEPFAR) and other forms of assistance and investments”-reads Biden’s statement.
The 46th US president further threatens that the consequences will also extend to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) where Uganda’s eligibility will be reviewed and whoever was involved in serious human rights abuses or corruption will be sanctioned.
The US in particular pumps almost $1 billion annually into Uganda and most important is that over $600million is pushed into health half of which is used to secure drugs for over the 1.2 million Ugandans living with HIV, if Museveni government doesn’t have an alternative funding for this, people living with HIV might suffer the most.
