Just like he vowed on 23rd March 2023 during on THE SPOT show on NTV, journalist Andrew Mwenda together with other 10 people has moved to the constitutional court to shoot down and stop the implementation of the anti-homosexuality act 2023 which was signed by president Museveni today.

This is almost the same group that shot down the same act after president Museveni signed into law on 25th February 2014. They will put up a tough legal battle though the grounds for the petition are yet to be known.

Court led by then acting Chief Justice Steven Kavuma gave them a win on 1st August 2014 when all the justices ruled in their favor on grounds that the house which passed the bill earlier on 21st December 2013 did not meet the required quorum.

Those who have petitioned the constitutional court together with Andrew Mwenda include Hon Fox Odoi who even opposed it all through the bill making process in parliament. The others include Prof Sylvia Tamale, Dr Busingye Kabumba, Solome Nakaweesi, Dr Frank Mugisha, Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera, Richard Smith Lusimbo, Eric Ndawula, Williams Apako and the Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum.

Appearing on NTV alongside MP Medard Lubega Ssegona, Andrew Mwenda asserted that there’s no reason why homosexuality between two consenting adults should be criminalized.

If i sit in the privacy of my bedroom with a fellow man who is also consenting, what have i taken from Medard or anybody? The two of us will be consenting. Why do you want to criminalize that?- said Andrew Mwenda while vowing to stop the Anti-homosexual bill if president Museveni signs into law which he has already done.

The now Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 has been welcomed with widespread condemnation especially the western world who have requested president Museveni to reconsider this tough law that comes with life imprisonment and death penalty for those convicted for recruiting children into and practicing homosexuality and heavy fines for those promoting it.
