At the tail end of last month on 30th April, government of United Kingdom announced sanctions against Uganda’s very powerful and flamboyant Speaker of parliament Hon Annet Anita Among and two former Museveni ministers Dr Mary Gorreti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu who were dropped out of the Karamoja docket.

Announcing the sanctions, UK’s Deputy Foreign Secretary Andrew Mitchel said the actions of the sanctioned Ugandan politicians in taking aid from those who need it most and keeping the proceeds tantamount to corruption at it’s worst and has no place in society. He further said, the UK was sending a clear message to those who think benefiting at the expense of others is acceptable.

The sanctions come at a time when Speaker Anita Among at the instigation of an online exposé dubbed #UgandaParliamentExhibition is under spotlight for spending tax payer’s money with impunity and has strangled any discussion about corruption on the floor of parliament.

Speaking to journalists today, Bobi Wine revealed that they applaud the sanctions not because of hate but because of the impunity in Uganda exhibited by some of those in government. He sights an example of Speaker Anita Among instead of opening up on her extravagant spending of tax payer’s money, she opted to just quarrel claiming it’s homosexuals fueling questions on her. She would later claim a former Speaker of parliament is fighting her.

“Take an example of Anita Among. She embezzles billions of public funds and evidence is supplied to the public. Instead of calling her to account, Gen. Museveni comes out to support, defend, and protect her. Instead of going after her, law enforcement agencies go after the whistleblowers to a a point that some have to go into hiding or flee the country. That is IMPUNITY”-said Bobi Wine
