TOP STORY: Gay People Breath Fire As Gov’t Okays Anti-Homosexuality Bill

At the heat of the Anti-Homosexuality talk in the country, speaker Anita Among revealed how the quashed 2014 bill will be re-introduced to curb the speed at which homosexuality is spreading in schools and communities.

Indeed she lived to her words and Bugiri Municipality legislator Asuman Basalirwa presented the Bill for the first reading yesterday as getting a Certificate of financial implication from the ministry of finance which sealed government’s position on the controversial bill.

Now after presenting the bill to parliament for processing, Homosexuals under their umbrella The Joint Uganda Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer group has come out with guns brazing the newly tabled Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 calling a move to end their rights as minorities.

“The bill is based on conspiracy theories aimed at erasing the lives of LGBTQ Ugandans. It has created more hatred and violence on an already vulnerable community and sadly unprecedented harm”- said Dr Frank Mugisha of Sexual Minorities Uganda

The also cry of discrimination that the bill is seeking to create against them and stigmatization.

Few days ago, a teacher at PMM girls school was arrested, arraigned to court and remanded to prison for being a lesbian and promoting homosexuality. Mukoda Lydia is said to have been cohabiting with a fellow woman whom she was regarding and calling as a wife.

A previous bill in 2014 was quashed courts of law in Uganda over quorum even after the president had signed it into law.

To prove the seriousness of the matter, Speaker Anita Among invited the Homosexuals to avail themselves to parliament to discuss the bill as it is the process with bills in parliament.

We are inviting everyone including homos: allow them to come..Mps, religious leaders and all of them. We don’t want a scenario of people saying we were not heard”- she said
