National Unity Platform has dropped another bombshell on Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator Mathias Mpuuga who has been on the receiving end for the past 1 and half months over what the party says is corruption.
For starters, Mpuuga alongside other NRM commissioners shared Shs1.7billion among themselves as service awards in a meeting that was chaired by Speaker Anita Among. At the instigation of an online exhibition dubbed #Ugandaparliamentexhibition, Mpuuga is said to have admitted to getting this money.

The party asked him politely to resign as parliamentary commission, he vehemently refused sighting he sees no crime committed in pocketing a service award of Shs500m given to him as former Leader of opposition in Parliament.
The party then convened another meeting of the National Executive Committee chaired by Deputy President Lina Zedriga and wrote to Mpuuga asking him to put in writing an explaination on why he should not be recalled from the parliamentary commission in just seven days.
These contend that the flamboyant Mpuuga wrote back but his reasons were not that convicing and to the effect, the National Executive Committee unanimously resolved to recall Mpuuga from the parliamentary commission and replace him with Mityana Municipality Legislator Francis Zaake Butebi who was booted by parliament from the same position way back in 2022.
On Tuesday speaking at a press conference he organized at parliament, Mpuuga re-affirmed his earlier position of no wrong doing and said he’s going no where and will in the coming weeks launch a campaign and process to reclaim the party to a right course because NUP is his party and is among those who founded it.
The same day Speaker Anita Among wrote back to NUP declining their decision to recall Mpuuga from the parliamentary commission. Among contends that the party can only nominate like they did but after, they have no powers to cause removal of a commissioner and therefore she shielded Mpuuga from any action.
Now after learning that the Deputy President has plans to launch a campaign with in the party to reclaim it from bad leadership, the party has now suspended him from the position of being it’s Deputy President Central region and has not appointed a substantive acting Deputy president.
According to the party, Mpuuga’s suspension takes immediate affect and it’s attributed to his engaging in actions of corruption and abuse of office and his failure to give a satisfactory explanation of the same.
