LUSAKA ZAMBIA: Convicted former Deputy Inspector of Police CHARITY KATANGA has been granted bail pending her appeal again the three years imprisonment handed over to her last month for possession of properties, proven to be proceeds of crime and corruption.
Mrs. KATANGA was on February 19,2024 convicted by the Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate CHIBWILI for possession of 10 Higer Buses which court says are proven to be proceeds of crime.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, the former Deputy IGP Katanga appealed to the High Court and filed an application for bail pending appeal in the subordinate court. Delivering his ruling on the bail application, Magistrate Chibwili said though he upholds reasons for convicting her, he has exercised discretion to her grant her bail.
Magistrate CHIBWILI imposed a 100 thousand Kwacha charge in personal recognizance as part of Mrs. Katanga’s bail. He further ordered Mrs. Katanga to obtain two sureties of fixed abode, working for reputable institutions before she can be released from jail.
Magistrate Chibwili also ruled that the two working sureties shall be charged 500 thousand Kwacha each in their own recognizance.
