The storm continues to take twists surrounding the controversial Shs500m which parliament awarded to former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga who is now a commissioner of parliament for the next 2.5 years.
In a statement shared by NUP principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu indicated that Mpuuga had been tasked to explain his involvement in the scandal to which he admitted and even apologized but what what caused the storm is the idea that Mpuuga resigns from his position as parliamentary commissioner.

Known for taking no prisoner, Mpuuga has defiantly told off Bobi Wine that he will not resign from his position and will not bow to any pressure exerted to him by what he refers to as young party National Unity Platform.
PARLIAMENT SPEAKS OUT
Speaking to media this evening, Parliament’s Director of Communications Chris Obore has cleared the doubts and said the money which Mpuuga got was not illegal but cash that he was awarded by the parliamentary commission as the leader of opposition which was termed the “Service Award’.
The hullabaloo is not yet to settle ahead of the 2026 general elections with questions of what is Mpuuga’s next stop if he’s to remain in parliament because he has made it clear he’ll not go down and be threatened.
From the onset, i want to say there was no bribe paid to Hon Mpuuga…..For purposes of clarity, the public ought to know that every member of parliament is paid a gratuity every year. One would classify that as a service reward. Hon Mpuuga by virtue of being a member of the commission as Leader of Opposition was offering a service beyond being a member of parliament or member of NUP
UPDATE- There’s no bribe Hon. Mpuuga received from parliament it was a legitimate pay – @ChrisObore1 pic.twitter.com/it6QOtwYS7
