AMUDAT: A group of Kenyan pastoralists The Turkana and the Pokots have urged the Ugandan government to investigate a group of Somalis that have settled in Amudat and they are conniving with Kenyan thieves to steal camels.
Speaking to this website, the concerned Kenyan pastoralists by the names Louse Emanikor from Turkana says thieves are stealing their camels and drive them to Amudat where they are sold to Somalis that have settled in Amudat.
“These thieves time camels in the wildness, drive them and cross to Amudat in Uganda where they are sold to Samalis based in Amudat,”he said.
According to Emanikor they have tried to reach to their Kenyan leaders to intervene but they are yet to see any help.
Joseph Ruto another pastoralist from Alale in Kenya appealed to the Ugandan authorities in Amudat to flash out the Somalis in their district saying they will expose Amudat to terrorism.
Meanwhile residents in Amudat are also concerned about the growing population of Somalis who have settled in this district and they are busy dealing in camel business taking to Kampala.
William Chepong a residents of Amudat says some of the Somalis are new while others are holding refugee identity cards from Kampala.
“We are also concerned about the growing number of somalis here in Amudat and we fear this might bring for us problems if they are not looked into they are staying”-he appealed
