Buganda kingdom at Mengo has made it clear that Moses Karangwa will remain a political reject at Kabaka’s palace for as long as he refuses to denounce Ssabanyara Capt Baker Kimeze’s rebellious activities against the Buganda king.
Ssabanyara has been laying claim to the Bugerere territory from which he wants Kabaka’s chiefs expelled.
His fights against the king even led to the 2009 Kayunga riots during which Kabaka’s trip to Kayunga was blocked by the military and dozens of Baganda youths gunned down as they protested on the streets.
That remains unresolved and officials at Mengo believe that Kimeze continues being stubborn because of unwillingness by big people in Kayunga to rebuke him.
Karangwa is among those big people in Kayunga who have never come out to denounce Kimeze. This is the reason why Mengo has remained reluctant to roll out its red carpet for Karangwa, who is campaigning to become NRM vice chairman for central region.
A few days ago, one of Karangwa’s supporters reached out to Katikkiro Mayiga’s protocol team requesting for a meeting so that Karangwa would be hosted and allowed to take photos in the Bulange gardens, with Katikkiro and other Kabaka officials.
The Katikkiro handlers immediately rejected the request and made it clear that there is no way Karangwa can ever be entertained at Kabaka’s palace or Mengo offices in Bulange before he publicly denounces the Ssabanyara Kimeze, the rebel king who claims to the sole cultural leader for Kayunga Bugerere, which Kabaka insists is part and parcel of his Buganda kingdom territory.
As they come to Kololo to vote for new CEC members, hundreds of NRM delegates are wondering how Karangwa will be able to effectively mobilize for support and deliver votes for Museveni and other NRM candidates in the central region if he is not on good terms with Mengo.
That is why photos of him standing with the Katikkiro in the Bulange gardens would have given Karangwa a big boost in his CEC campaigns.
