Santa Alum is the woman MP for Oyam district and she is sister of UPC first lady Betty Amongi yet the two don’t see eye to eye anymore. The very beautiful Alum first became MP in 2011 when Amongi brought her to destroy Beatrice Lagada the NRM woman who was MP for Oyam.
Amongi had first defeated Lagada and became the woman MP in 2001 when she had the backing of Noble Mayombo, Ben Wacha and Okullo Epak. She had just left Makerere and was working with Pan African movement offices under Mayombo. But later on Amongi went to become Oyam south MP after the death of her mentor Epak.
She brought Santa Alum, a daughter of teachers, who is also her step sister to destroy Lagada of NRM. Recently, the two UPC sisters fell out so badly and are now supporting each other’s opponents.
Alum is backing Ruth Aceng for Lira city woman MP seat which Amongi also wants. But even before this, Alum narrowly survived being gang raped at a hotel in Lira and her supporters up to this day believe this would have benefited Amongi’s camp. This created suspicion and enemity.
When she reached parliament, Alum attracted support and friendship with big people with angered Amongi who wanted to control and keep her under her armpits. One of these big people was Jacob Oulanyah who was deputy speaker in 2011. He worked well with Alum and even became her mentor since he had also been in UPC before going to NRM.
Oulanyah one time introduced Alum to Museveni and told him she was a good hearted lady even if she is in UPC. One time state house put her on the list of MPs to travel with Museveni to a foreign trip. This annoyed Amongi who wanted to be the only UPC female politician to be near Museveni or to be the only who connects all UPC women to state house.
After all that had happened, Alum secretly built a powerful home which is like a palace in Kira Namugongo. Her mansion is on three acres and even has a swimming pool. This made Amongi envious and even more annoyed with Santa Alum hence their current feuding.
Alum also has another home in Bulindo which is like a hotel and when she saw it, Amongi wept in envy and promised to politically destroy her for being ungrateful. Amongi wants to be the only UPC woman in Lango with power and money and this is why she wants to see Alum destroyed in 2026.
Alum who openly campaigns for Aceng these days in Lira says she is not going to be intimidated by Amongi even when she is the 1st lady of UPC.
