UPC president Jimmy Akena has chickened out of the presidential race to challenge his funder Museveni directly and he is now having his eyes on Maruzi county MP seat.
His cousin Maxwell Akora, who was implicated in the cooperatives scandal, has accepted to leave the Maruzi seat for Akena who can not win reelection in Lira city where he has served since 2006.
He removed Cecilia Ogwal in 2006 and even when he can’t speak Langi, the voters elected him because he was former president Obote’s son. Patrick Ocan is the Apac municipality MP on the UPC ticket but he is not related to Akena, unlike Maxwell Akora.
Ocan is already shedding buckets of tears and feels betrayed by Akena who is determined to sacrifice him in favor of Akora who is ready to leave Maruzi, where he had become unpopular after serving for such a long time, for his cousin brother Jimmy Akena.
Sources say that Akena expected some good money from a certain rich and powerful politician in Kampala to fund his presidential campaigns for 2026 but he is now discouraged afrer realising that the would-be donor has changed his mind and will not be giving him even a penny.
He recently went to Magere to dupe Bobi Wine that he is prepared to leave the prssidency race for him so that he directs all the UPCs in Lango to vote for him as NUP presidential candidate the way Cecilia Ogwal did for Kizza Besigye.
Sources add that Jimmy Akena is disappointed a lot with Museveni’s failure to respect him in IPOD and believes that Bobi Wine has enough popularity even in Lango to increase his victory chances in Maruzi and for other UPC candidates in urban areas and towns of Lango.
