It took the intervention of Kole woman MP Judith Alyek, who is also the Lango parliamentary group chairperson, to calm down tempers inside the state house meeting between Museveni and leaders of Lango.
Amongi reported to the president that she was feeling politically unsafe ahead of 2026 after leading clerics organized an open air prayer crusade in Akibua stadium to declare war on her. The crusade had religious leaders like former archbishop Luke Orombi, Lango anglican diocesan bishop Alfred Olwa among others.
The organizers put this crusade after getting reports that witch craft and ritual sacrifices was becoming rampant in Lira city which is the heart of Lango sub region. Indeed, many of the summons were targeted on healing and God’s readiness and ability to protect the people of Lango and more so those of Lira city against witch craft.
But for unknown reasons, money-seeking supporters lied minister Amongi that Orombi, Olwa and other preachers at the crusade had declared war against her and that they had given a platform to her haters to demonize her, which wasn’t the case.
Amongi bought the propaganda all these lies and responded by starting to make personal attacks on radios of Lira city against religious leaders whose participation in the crusade, where they prayed against witch craft and satanic symbols such as cobra snakes which had become rampant in Lira city, she considered to be total hostility towards her political ambitions to become the new MP Lira city.
But inside state house, before even Museveni could respond, Alyek offered to respond to Betty Amongi’s rant. She explained to the president that as chairperson Lango parliamentary group, she attended the crusade in Akibua stadium but none of the preachers and bishops ever attacked Betty Amongi.
Alyek explained that all they prayed for was God’s protection upon all His children in Lango against witch craft and rampant cases of ritual sacrifice and cobra snakes.
And because she is a vindictive politician who takes things personal, Amongi has revenged by endorsing Judith Alyek’s 2026 opponent by the names of Joy Ongom who is coming on UPC ticket to become the new Kole woman MP. Ambassador Joy Ruth Aceng is another UPC woman who wants Amongi’s blessing to remove Judith Alyek.
