Top UPC MP cries In State House Over Museveni’s 15bn 2026 Campaign Fund

Two weeks ago president Museveni met a group of 30 leaders from Lango inside the Entebbe state house. 15 were supporters of minister Betty Amongi and another 15 supporters of her Lira City woman MP seat rival Jane Aceng.

The meeting lasted for 10 hours and Museveni was accompanied by Nalweyiso and PPS Gloria Omaswa.

Maruzi MP Maxwell Akora represented UPC president Jimmy Akena who missed because he had gone to Bushenyi. Akora cried to the president and begged him to prevail on his RDCs, GISOs and NRM ONC coordinators who he said had succeeded in spreading propaganda against the UPC in Lango.

Akora told Museveni that the NRM cadres had succeeded in spreading propaganda that state house had given out 15bn to facilitate lower level UPC candidates campaigns for 2026 throughout Lango sub region.

Akora told Museveni that this had made their life very hard because voters were now asking for their share. He begged Museveni to come out at a press conference and publicly tell the Langis that this is not true.

Museveni ignored this request saying that this would be too low for the whole president to do such a thing. This left Akora tearful and other UPCs present feeling betrayed by the NRM big man.

The background to this rumor is that the UPCs in 2016 were given billions by state house to campaign for their MPs after the party declared support for Museveni since they had no candidate for president and were opposed to the TDA deal of Amama Mbabazi.

Now the rumor on Lango whatsapp forums is that Jimmy Akena will eventually back off his presidential bid in return for Museveni to give another 15bn for the UPC candidates to campaign for lower positions.

A tearful Akora told the meeting at state house that the rumored 15bn was creating a lot of PR problems for the UPCs at lower levels.
