Two weeks ago, Museveni hosted a meeting of political leaders from Lango to give his minister Jane Aceng a chance to defend herself against accusations another fellow minister Betty Amongi and her hubby Jimmy Akena had made against her during an earlier meeting. The two meetings were at Entebbe state house.
During the meeting of three people, Akena and Amongi had told Museveni how Aceng was such a bad person to the extent that she had blocked Amongi’s move to defect from UPC to join NRM and campaign to become the northern region NRM vice chairman which was occupied by Jacob Oulanyah.
During the meeting of two weeks ago, which was held on a Tuesday, Museveni read out everything Akena and Amongi had told him about Aceng. This was one of them. Before Aceng would even answer, two UPC chairpersons who now support Aceng and not Amongi, offered to respond.
They told Museveni that the Akenas had lied to him because the decision to block Amongi from joining NRM had been taken during a UPC retreat that was hosted at her hotel in Kamdin. The UPC chairpersons told Museveni that Among had called the meeting to consult them about her plans to join NRM.
Museveni was told that majority UPCs at that meeting opposed Amongi joining NRM on grounds that Akena would be discredited as the UPC president once his wife joined NRM and became a CEC member.
The old men of the congress told the president that even Akena understood their argument and that’s how Amongi’s move to join NRM was blocked. It had nothing to do with Aceng.
This revelation of truth angered Amongi so much during the meeting of two weeks ago and she had nothing to say to the president who seemed disappointed to realize how he had been deliberately lied to by the UPC president and his first lady during their earlier meeting of 3 people.
