National Unity Platform (NUP) has postponed it’s planned countrywide tours dubbed the Revolutionary train which was set to trek a journey to Mityana after successfully taking their message to Mukono and Masaka on Wednesday and Friday respectively last week.
Prior to heading to Mukono and Masaka, NUP had had two of their tours in Kamuli and Palisa thwarted by police until the two [NUP & POLICE] held engagements and agreed on a number of issues regarding their activities.

During the trek to Masaka, an accident took place just after Bobi Wine had passed Maya according to eye witnesses but police attributed the accident to Bobi Wine’s procession and immediately halted Bobi Wine’s tours again awaiting investigations of the said accident which claimed three people.
Now National Unity Platform has released a statement urging police to thoroughly well investigate circumstances leading to the accident in Maya on Masaka road not to just conclude and blame NUP for the same.
“Police says the driver of the car which caused the accident fled the scene. We hope they will trace this person, conduct thorough investigations on the cause of the accident and bring the culprits to book, instead of finding a convenient excuse to yet again halt our activities”-NUP’s statement reads in part.
NUP has heaped huge blame on police over double standards for allowing some political outfits stage rallies and even processions but come with several restrictions when it’s turn for the National Unity Platform.
“Finally, we have seen the police statement in which Mr. Fred Enanga yet again, announced another illegal, blanket ban on our activities like they have regularly done. While we undertake to enforce greater discipline and responsibility in our activities, we take strong exception to the partisan, illegal statement by the police. Regrettably, they continue to act in a clearly partisan manner. Just yesterday, we saw activities including processions being conducted by other political groups leaning to the NRM. We have repeatedly asked them why they continue to target NUP! We have seen many road accidents happen before or after events of other political groups. The police never come out to issue blanket bans on their subsequent events”-NUP statement further reads.
The party also says has reached out to the bereaved families to commiserate with them and have also taken a decision to put to hold their planned trek to Mityana and a new program for the movement of the ‘revolutionary train’ will be revealed later.
“In the meantime, we have decided to postpone our scheduled activity in Mityana next week as we mourn with the bereaved families. We shall put out a new schedule in due course”-says NUP
