The United States Department of State has today 30th May announced sanctions on Ugandan several politicians. Three of these including speaker Anita Among, Dr Mary Goreti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu were earlier sanctioned by the United Kingdom last month.

In a statement released by the US department spokesperson Michael Miller, four of the sanctioned officials Anita Among, Amos Lugolobi, Agnes Nandutu and Goreti Kitutu are accused of diverting Karamoja iron sheets meant for the needy people for their own benefit.

While former Deputy CDF Lt Gen Peter Elwelu was sanctioned for gross human rights violation specifically emanating from the 2016 UPDF attack on Kasese (Rwenzululu) kingdom palace where several people were killed, hundreds of royal guards arrested including their king Charles Wesley Mumbere.

Now sanctions on Minister Amos Lugolobi, Speaker Anita Among, Mary Goreti Kitutu have spilled to their spouses. This means FUFA President Moses Hashim Magogo will now carry the same cross with his second wife Anita Among, Kitutu’s husband Michael George Kitutu and Lugolobi’s wife Evelyn Nakimera are all equally barred from stepping a feet in the United States.

“These public designations are made under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2024 (Div. F, P.L. 118-47). The Department is also designating Among’s Spouse, Moses Magogo Hassim; Kitutu’s spouse, Michael George Kitutu; and Lugolobi’s spouse, Evelyn Nakimera; they also are generally ineligible for entry into the United States. The additional steps to impose visa restrictions on multiple other Ugandan individuals are being taken under Section 212 (a) (3) (C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act under the policy”-the statement further reads.
