In an NBS Television Video making rounds on social media, the function went on well until leaders were given the microphone to say a word or two. When the mic got into his hands, Leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi told off premier Nabbanja of the too much corruption which might even lead to the collapse of the Museveni government. He reminded the audience of the grand Mabaati scandal of which Nabbanja was among those accused.
Time came for Nabbanja to also say a word, in rebuttal she started by warning Ssenyonyi and other Ugandans to stop accusing her of stealing mabaati, according to Nabanja, she has never stolen any single iron-sheet and is a clean woman, that’s the reason her name is not among those who shared cash at the parliamentary commission where Mpuuga got a whooping Shs500m as service award.
“Stop accusing me of stealing ‘Mabaati’, you’ve heard of Mpuuga and his colleagues who shared money among themselves, did you hear my name there, please stop stop,,Ssenyonyi and all of you Ugandans, stop calling me mabaati chief, i have never stolen Mabati and never took a single iron sheet to my home”-a visibly angry Nabanja furiously warned.

Nabbanja sits on the parliamentary commission as the Leader of Government business in parliament and besides her office as prime minister, even this particular office where she’s deputized by aging Gen Moses Ali, money is allocated to the same office by the parliamentary commission.

For starters, besides the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 which was passed by parliament and signed into law by president Museveni, the Karamoja Mabati scandal was one of the biggest stories of the year attached to the office of the prime minister where several ministers including Nabbanja diverted thousands of iron sheets meant of the Karachuna in Karamoja.
Museveni ordered ministers to return the Mabati but Karamoja minister Mary Goret Kitutu, junior finance minister Amos Lugoloobi and Karamoja Junior Minister Agnes Nandutu all were arrested, sent to the cold gates of Luzira prisons and are currently facing graft charges.
