News making rounds indicate that a mobilizer for Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform in the Karamoja region was last night showered with bullets by people said from security killing him instantly. He’s Lochoto Ambrose Machete, the Chairperson of NUP’s mobilization team in Kaabong District in the greater Karamoja region.

Details so far available indicate that there was “Information received by security agencies from intelligence that unknown armed suspected warriors had raided cattle from Kakamar Sub-county and upon receiving tis information, the joint security forced started laying ambushes in different known crossing points of rustlers with an aim of intercepting and recovering and disarming the suspected armed warriors, and the victim a one Lachoto Ambrose entered into the laid ambush at around midnight and he was shot dead knowing that he was among the unknown armed suspected warriors who had raided in Kakamar sub-county”-a brief police statement reads as investigation takes shape.
According to police, the scene of crime was visited and documented by the DPC, D/CID/ officer and a team of police officers and army, relevant statements from relatives and other witnesses were taken and later the body was conveyed to the Kaabong General Hospital for Postmortem.

Via his social media handles, Bobi Wine revealed that the killers shot him at close range after following him as he was coming from watching a football.
Karamoja is a volatile region where guns remain in the hands of civilians despite government’s efforts to disarm the residents, cattle rustling among the Karamojongs and the neighboring communities of the Turkana and Pokot from Kenya all pose a security threat despite the presence of a full division of UPDF.
