Last was a theatre of confusion, blackmail and pin pointing at the Makerere-Kavule based National Unity Platform after the party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu bitterly got issues with his Deputy President Buganda region, former Leader of opposition and Commissioner of parliament Mathias Mpuuga.
In a statement shared by Bobi Wine and confirmed by the party’s spokesperson and also current Leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, the party convened a meeting with senior leaders which even Mpuuga attended, these say Mpuuga admitted to pocketing a reward from parliament amounting to Shs500m.

The NUP statement further indicated that Mpuuga had apologized. It also had it that Mpuuga had been advised to step down from his position as commissioner of parliament. In his strong worded statement issued a day later, Mpuuga declined to resign and bitterly cocked his gun and shot some shots towards party some party leaders, party president Kyagulanyi and his family members over the affairs of the party.
The hullabaloo surrounding the Mpuuga cash reward issue continues taking twists with some calling it constitutional and others blaming Mpuuga for taking part in the scramble and partition of tax payer’s money at parliament.
Now the Uganda Law Society has also joined the line of discussion and vividly stated that the money which Mpuuga received as “Service Award” is illegal and he ought to return it if it lands his bank account.
According to the ULS president Bernard Oundo, such financial disbursements require parliamentary approval through a Bill or motion introduced by the Executive arm of government as stipulated in Article 93 of the Constitution.
highlighting the absence of any official proposal or motion regarding the service award, Uganda Law Society asserts that the allocation constitutes an unauthorized withdraw from public funds. Oundo emphasizes the need for a thorough investigation into the matter to uphold the integrity of financial governance and adherence to legal procedures.
