The National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Kiruhura District Shadrak Nzeire Kaguta has told citizens who demand government services without voting for NRM in general elections to sit down and have a talk with themselves.
“You always deny us during elections,” Nzeire said told residents of Bukomansimbi at a recent bursaries function organized by the ruling party’s supporter and area leader Salim Kisseka.
Over the years, NRM leaders have tied service delivery to votes, reminding citizens of the “give-and-take” politics where their votes would translate to service delivery.
“We are not happy with you people of Bukomansimbi and you should stop asking service delivery from the government because you do not like us,” Nzeire, a younger brother to President Museveni, said.
Nzeire said it was time for the people of Bukomansimbi turned their attention to the ruling party if they want to benefit from government programmes and develop themselves.
The comments highlighted the complex relationship between governance, political affiliation, and public service delivery in Uganda, where perceptions of fairness and equity often intersect with partisan interests.
Nzeire’s role as a member of the Museveni family added another layer of scrutiny to his remarks, raising questions about nepotism and power dynamics within the ruling party.
The incident served as a reminder of the ongoing tensions surrounding political participation and representation in Uganda, where debates over democracy and governance continue to shape the country’s future.
Meanwhile, Nzeire urged the councilors to come out and engage themselves in income generating activities through cooperatives so that the government can also help them.
The event itself, aimed at providing educational support to locals, saw over 600 children received bursaries in various schools including primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
Brig Deus Ssande, commander of the Kasijjagirwa army camp in Masaka city, urged the people of Bukomansimbi to work hard to educate their children so that the country continues to move forward.
‘Those children are our successors because of we are now old we need to retire and do other things and the country has to move forward so please educate your children and when we are recruiting army officers, give them to us – our army is the most disciplined and in Uganda we will never have any war so please do get scared of sending them to join the army,” Brig Ssande said.
