VERY DISSAPOINTED: Over 200 NRM MPs Left Cursing As Parliament Approves New Commissioners

Parliament approved four new commissioners who will serve on the house’s decision making body together with the Speaker Anita Among and her deputy for the remaining part of this term until 2026.

Among those approved was former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga whom the party retained for at least a juicy position in parliament after replacing him with Nakawa West legislator Joel Ssenyonyi who also took over officer yesterday.

The others approved by parliament are Hon. Esther Afoyochan the woman member of parliament Zombo district, Hon. Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi woman MP for Rubanda, Hon. Solomon Silwany representing Bukooli central in Bugiri district. There were nominated by the Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua who presented their names to the speaker of parliament.

However, over 200 NRM members of parliament are not happy with their party and Obua himself for lying to them to apply for the three commissioner jobs only for the party to retain the serving commissioners.

It was reported last week that President Museveni was surprised that over 200 MPs applied for only three positions of commissioner of parliament and he was the man to make the final decision of their fate, he did so and dumped all their application letters and CVs in the bucket and retained the old guard.

There was confusion before approving the NRM commissioners as some MPs protested the move especially Hon Yorke Alion (Aringa South County) who wondered by the NRM Party asked MPs to apply for positions of Commissioners, yet all signs showed the Party wanted to maintain the old team.

Commissioners of parliament are the second highly facilitated leaders in parliament after the speakers and leader of opposition in parliament. These are given very big allowances and emoluments, big government vehicles chauffeured by a driver appointed by parliament, security and lots of travel benefits. This could be the reason why over 200 NRM MPs submitted their application letters and CVs to land the lucrative jobs.
