AMUDAT: Christine Chenangat had lost all her hopes to become a better person when she completed her senior four, she had a dream of becoming a midwife so that she can serve her people who mainly cross to Kenya to seek medical attention in Kenya hospitals due to lack of enough midwives in Amudat.
When she completed her senior four, Chenangat who comes from a poor background, remained helpless, She had no one to help to pay her tuition since she had passed very well in her o level, but at one point she was surprised when co director of Evergrande Resource company limited announced that the company would support bright students of Amudat to attain their education.
Quickly, Chenangat could not just let that message to go out of her ears, she pushed until she become one of the many students being sponsored by the Company which is carrying out exploration on Gold in Chepkararat in Lokales sub county in Amudat district.
Chenangat is currently in Mt Elson school of nursing and midwifery with the Evergrande resource company limited paying her tuition.
“I thank God for the opportunity that has come to me and am not taking this for granted, the jolly Chenangat told this publication’s.
Another excited beneficiaries is Charity Chepudon who is also in Ngora school of nursing and midwifery pursuing certificate in midwifery with the support from Evergrande resource company limited.
There other students being sponsored in Pokot Senior secondary school and Pokot girls senior secondary school, others are in Lira.
Mr.Rogers Okello the co director of Evergrande resource company limited told this publication’s that as the company’s corporate social responsibilities, education is one key element the company values. He said the company will be educating up to 4 students to the university and those who want to do courses of their choice.
“Developing Karamoja can only be achieved through education that’s why we take education as the best to give the people of Amudat,”he said.
This publication learnt that Amudat district is one of the district with the highest number of illiteracy and by sponsoring students in the area would help to shape the future of the district.
