Oyam north residents go to the polls today in a by-election to fill the vacant position of Directly elected member of parliament which fell vacant after Col Charles Okello Engola who was also junior minister for labour was gunned down by his body guard Private Wilson Sabiiti on 2nd May 2023.

The battle lines have been drawn between NRM’s Sam Engola Junior and UPC’s Dr. Eunice Apio along side other candidates like Daniel Okello on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket and Freddie Newton Okello of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Voting is currently ongoing at all the 167 polling stations with 90,733 in the 8 sub-counties of Oyam North
However in a heated exchange of words, UPC president Jimmy Akena nearly exchanged blows with NRM Elections boss Dr Tanga Odoi as claims of Vote rigging, bribery and ballot stuffing take centre stage.
