In the headlines this afternoon, the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) Betty Olive Namisango Kamya (BONK) has arrested the Director of Uganda National Beural Of Standards (UNBS) Dr David Livingstone Ebiru over misuse of office and corruption.
Ebiru who at the time of his arrest was on a forced leave of six months after the minister for trade sent him to go home is accused of a string of cases but most of them are corruption related. While appearing before the Joel Ssenyonyi led Committee of COSASE, Ebiru confessed to have parted with UGX100 millions of the agency money which he gave to the Board of UNBS such that he retains his job.
“I confess that i bribed the board to secure my position. The Shs100 million was handed over to one board member for distribution”-Ebiru said
Two days later, shocked COSASe members when he retracted the statement claiming that the bribery allegations he had leveled his boss, the Chairperson of the NCS Mr Charles Musekuula plus other board members had been vented out of anger.
The National Standards Council would later appoint Ebiru’s Deputy Mr. Daniel Nangalama as the Acting ED of UNBS.
The Deputy IGG Ms Anne Twinomugisha Muhaire on Monday, July 24, issued an arrest warrant for Ebiru after the former failed to heed to summons by the IGG over the same on Friday last week where he was expected to respond to corruption allegations.

In her arrest warrant, Ms Muhairwe said thus: “Whereas Mr David Livingstone Ebiru was ordered to appear before the Inspectorate of Government at 2:00PM July 21, 2023 and subsequent days to testify what he knew and or to furnish information about the above state inquire, he has not appeared and has not furnished an information”.
Upon arrest today, IGG says the troubled Director will now be arraigned before the Anti-corruption court and he faces the charges.
