The country is yet to come to terms that over 40 Students at Lhubiriha secondary school perished in a terrorist attack sanctioned by the Allied Democratic Forces which has been fighting in the jungles of Congo for over 20 years.
According to reports from Kasese, the school which was raided in found in Mpondwe about 2 kilometers away from the boarder with Congo. The militants butchered students, looted a food store and abducted a yet to be known number of students.
Police has since evacuated the survivors from the scene of crime to Bwera hospital and also took the bodies of those killed to the mortuary of the same hospital as UPDF makes a hot pursuit against the militants who are said to have taken the direction of Virunga National Park inside the DR Congo.

Uganda launched operations against this rebel group which has been making attacks inside Congo and even border districts in Uganda like Ntoroko and Kasese.
However, it remains a question of how the rebels who are said to have been in 5 in number according to a statement from the UPDF managed to raid the school, caused mayhem and left many dead.
According to a statement from the UPDF, the incident happened at around 11:30PM and the force received information, on reaching the crime scene, they found lifeless bodies of students lying in the compound and fire razing down the hostel.
“Last night 16 June 2023 at around 11:30pm, a group of ADF terrorists attacked Mpondwe/ Lhubiriha Secondary School (Privately owned) in Nyabugando Parish Karambi Sub County in Kasese District. Shortly our forces received this information and moved in quickly. Intelligence revealed that this attack was by suspected ADF rebels about 05 in number. The 5 Mountain Battalion Commander together with other sister forces advanced to the scene”-reads part of the UPDF statement.
Locals are however enraged by how security didn’t rush in time to save the situation with all the security installation surrounding the place. For-example, the UPDF barracks at Kamukumbi is about 1.5 Kilometers away from the crime scene.
The Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Police Division headquarters is also about 2 Kilometers away, a heavily armed UPDF Brigade headquarters at Katholhu is also about 6 Kilometers away from the school and Nyabugabo Police post is also just around 800 meters away from the attacked school.
Investigations will reveal the loopholes that the militias banked on to cause danger and mayhem.
