Residents in Kasese and other Ugandans are still in shock after ADF rebels attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe and killed students, leaving scores critically injured and several others abducted.
UPDF has since revealed that it’s doing a hot pursuit to bring the rebels to book and also rescue the students abducted as reports indicated that they took direction to Virunga National Park inside the DRC.
The death toll now stands at 41 with boys and girls among those killed. Sources privy to this incident reveal that the terrorists broke into the girls’ dormitory and started slaughtering them one by one while the boy’s dormitory was bombed after they refused to open.

Of the 41 victims, 22 were slaughtered, 17 bombed inside the hostel and the other two were residents (support staff). The incident took place towards mid-night of 16th September 2023.
President Museveni has since sent the minister of Education/ first lady Janet Kataha Museveni to commiserate with the school. He has also sent the CDF Gen Wilson Mbadi and the CLF Lt Gen Kaanja Muhanga on a fact finding mission together with the UPDF Division commander for assessment.
While speaking to the residents in Kasese, Maj Gen Dick Olum the UPDF commander of Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa in Congo has revealed that the terrorists spent two nights in the area before raiding the school.
“We have got information that the rebels spent two nights here before they raided the school. We have sent for choppers to be deployed in our search and rescue operation for the students who were abducted. Some students, especially the boys were birth to death while the girls were hacked and others taken as captives”-Dick revealed
