Terrorist from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacked Lhubiriha secondary school in Mpondwe at the boarder of Uganda and Congo leaving 41 people dead though the number of victims was said it might increase.
According to the Mountain Division commander also the head of Operation Shujaa in DRC Maj Gen Dick Olum, the assailants spent two nights in Kasese preparing for the raid.
Locals told media that the rebels started with the askari at the gate whom they shot dead, they proceeded to the girls dormitories which they found open and slaughtered them one by one before they proceeded to the Boy’s hostel. It’s said the boys refused to open the door and the assailants instead through bombs inside which burnt them.
President Museveni sent the minister of Education and Sports/ his wife Janet Museveni to rush to Kasese to commiserate with the school and the bereaving families. However, she didn’t make it to Kasese sighting that her and family are under isolation due to Covid-19 and instead sent the state minister for Higher Education Dr John Chrysestom Muyingo.

Muyingo while at Lhubiriha secondary school revealed that every family that has lost a loved one in the attack will receive UGX5million, those admitted in hospital (the survivors) will be catered for and government will also help the school to resume operations.
The survivors are currently receiving treatment from Bwera Hospital and the bodies of the deceased are also conveyed to the mortuary of the same hospital. Those who were burnt beyond recognition, government will do DNA tests to prove ownership.
Government has usually been giving this amount to bereaved families when their loved one’s have died in calamities like floods, the famous bijambiya and accidents like he the one at Kanoni when a truck rammed into a school.
The army says it’s still pursuing the attacker and will get them even where they’re in the jungles of Congo. They’re said to have taken the direction of Virunga National Park in Congo with the abductees.
