MOROTO: The rate at which the officials from the prime minister’s office attached to Karamoja are in panic is at the level of the highest peak of Mt. Moroto.

Initially office of the prime minister recruited local staff to work as community mobilizers tasked with mobilizing the community on the projects funded by the office of the Prime minister. Each district has one focal point person across Karamoja region.

However, from the time the iron sheets and goats saga was brought up, the community mobilizers who were key in ensuring that communities get goats and iron sheets started switching off their known contacts before fleeing to different unknown locations.

The parliamentary committee on the presidential affairs is currently investigating the industrial theft of Karamoja relief items and goats.

At thehe centre of trouble is Minister for Karamoja affairs Dr.Marry Goreti Kitutu whom the Karimojong have nicknamed her as Mama Baati after she confessed to have diverted thousands of iron sheets meant to support the reformed Karimojong cattle rustlers to her relatives and political opponents.

Her mother, brother and nephew were both arrested and released on police bond.

This website learnt that most of the OPM staff stationed in Karamoja are no longer seen in public and to make things worse, it’s said said the companies which distributed the goats with the right hand and took them away through the left hand from the karimojongs conned with the community mobilizers to con and defraud the Karamoja people.

A case in point is Kaabong town council which was supposed to receive 2,160 goats on President Museveni’s directive as a way to improve on the living standards of Karamoja people, to their dismay, they never received any goat but the company yet to be known was fully paid Shs1.2billion.

Grace Kolibi a resident of Nakapiripirit says they used to communicate with their mobilizer on phone calls but ever since the iron sheets and goats saga were brought out, they’re no longer seeing any one.

“We still wanted to consult them as a community on other things but we can’t all their phones are off and they’re no where to be seen even at their known physical address”-she says.

One of the community mobilizers who met with this website and requested not to be named said the saga in OPM has put their lives also in danger.

“The community is hunting for us also even yet we don’t know anything so it’s better to hide”- she says.
