Moru Losia one of the pastoralists said he had 40 herds of cattle but only 12 have remained saying he had again lost five of them just last week.
“We are losing animals daily and more are likely to die because of the previous drought”-Moru told us.
While Francis Kiyonga the former district LCV Chairperson of Amudat district says cattle and donkeys have died since December last year.
Speaking to this website, Micheal Kasiro the district veterinary officer confirms that last month of February a total of 500 animals died due to starvation. Kasiro further says although there are some rains in the region but the new grass was more dangerous to the animals that have been starving.
“It will take up to three months for the animals to get used to the fresh grass because this grass comes with a lot of water in it yet animals have been starving”-says Kasiro
