Bobi Wine- Museveni

After a full year and five months behind the gates of Kigo prisons over accusations of taking part in the murder of several people in the famous Bijambiya in the greater Masaka region.

The legislators were arrested in September 2021, given bail by the Court in Masaka paid UGX 20 million each and their sureties also bonded with some non cash conditions. Unfortunately their happiness was cut short when they were re-arrested just after walking out of the prison gates and have been detained since then.

Their bail application then never went well with the president of Uganda who made it clear that murder suspects have no right to bail and consequently their several bail applications have been dumped in the trash until yesterday when God answered their prayers.

Masaka high court justice Lawrence Tweyanze, following withdrawal of objection orders to their bail applications by the state attorney Richard Birivumbuka, the two legislators were finally granted bail after a long time.

However, the prisoners Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana were not handed over to their relatives and by mid-night, Kigo prisons authority told the lawyers and relatives that the legislators are not with them and have since been released following the Masaka court order.

This raised questions whether the prisoners had been freed but not free yet like it happened before only to be told in the morning hours that Allan Ssewanyana had been dropped at his grand mothers place in Masulita in Wakiso district and Ssegirinya was also dropped in Mengo.

In what remains a mystery of questions, their party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has remained silent almost 24 hours after the court granted freedom to the legislators whom he has been fighting tooth and nail to have them released.

It’s also been reported that the leader of opposition Mathius Mpuuga who was even on the legal team in Masaka court yesterday brokered a negotiation deal with president Museveni to have the legislators released and all the other political prisoners who are detained also to be freed.

Mpuuga is said to have done this behind Bobi Wine’s back and he was not privy to the negotiation deal with president Museveni to have the legislators freed after 17 months  in prison without trial but just ping pong games.

The negotiations have been confirmed by Kasambya country legislator who has opened up about the fruits of Museveni’s secret meetings with the leader of opposition alongside several top shots at parliament.

Many have been quick to think that it’s the reason why Bobi Wine has remained silent on the release of his comrades in the struggle.
