The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has opened on news of Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Gorette Kitutu being trapped in corruption scandal that may cost her her juicy job if the allegations are true.
According to reports privy to the matter, whistle blowers alerted the State House Anti corruption received a tip off that the Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Gorette Kitutu who is also the woman Member of Parliament for Manafwa district diverted relief items destined for Karamoja to her constituency.

Details further opine to this publication that upon a search done in some homes in Manafwa, particularly the one which is said to be belonging to Minister Kitutu’s Mother in Situmi village, Bukhaweka Parish in Bupoto sub-county, iron sheets were recovered and three suspects were arrested including Kitutu’s brother, nephew and a store man and were being detained at Mayetse police station.
The search is said to have continued to 3 churches and 2 schools where the Iron sheets in question are said to have been donated by the Minister. It’s also alleged that some iron sheets had been donated to the minister’s cordinators who played a pivotal role in her 2021 general elections.
Upon being tipped off by friends that the iron sheets are bringing shit to them, some people opted to remove the said sheets from their houses and consequently running off. By the end of the day, the anti- corruption unit had discovered 450 government iron sheets.
However, in a turn of events, the permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister has issued a statement on the arrest of the minister Kitutu’s mother, her brother and nephew for selling off the relief items meant for Karamoja under the affirmative action programmes.
According to the office of the prime minister, government through the office of the minister for Karamoja affairs released iron sheets to support the vulnerable groups, interest groups, institutions and reformed warriors commonly know as Karachunas unfortunately they ended up in another region other than the intended destination.
“…the Office of the Prime Minister, through the Office of the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, released Iron sheets to support the Vulnerable groups, Interest groups, Institutions and “Karachunas” (Reformed warriors) in Karamoja Region. However, we did not send iron sheets to Namisindwa District”- reads part of the statement.
Ministerial departmental heads for Karamoja affairs have since been tasked to provide accountability for the said iron sheets that were released as investigations into the matter kick off to bring all the culprits to book.
The office of the prime minister has always been hit by corruption scandals over the years unfortunately the officials have forgotten nothing and learnt nothing with the recent one being in 2020 when top officials were detained over corona virus cash fraud, others in refugee departments among others.
