Honorable Gilbert Oulanyah MP for Kilak south constituency survived when he reportedly banged into a vehicle that had been also knocked down along the Lira- Kamdini highway on his way to Lira for a FUFA drum Match between Lira province and Tooro province.
Revealing through his social media pages, Gilbert Oulanyah says it was God who saved him. It’s further reported that Olanyah who was not hurt or injured abandoned his Vehicle Reg number UBK 039H and proceeded to Lira to watch the match which Lira province won by 1-0.
Accidents have been on the rise in recent months and during the weekly press briefing today, the traffic police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima revealed shocking figures indicating that in a space of 12 days in December, road accidents have claimed 163 lives and left over 573 nursing injuries.
Nampiima further said that 81 people died in the six days between December 4th and December 10th while 83 people died from Monday 12th to Saturday 17th bringing the count to 164.
Last week police on the orders of president Museveni re-instated check points and road blocks on major high ways in a bid to curb criminality and road accidents as the festive season nears.
