JUST IN: Parliament Rises Red Flag For Nyege Nyege Festival Set For Next Week

The famous Nyege Nyege festival that has always taken place in and around Jinja is set to happen next week from 15th to 18th September has got members of parliament who want to stop it from taking place.

This afternoon, when the discussion came up for the event which has been resisted since it’s inception even during the days of former Ethics Minister the Late Father Simon Lokodo, legislators including the speaker Anita Among have placed a red flag for the event that attracts 1000s of foreign tourists to the country.

The explanation by the Minister of State for Tourism Hon Martin Mugarra to defend the event as a hub of tourism met resistance and fell on deaf ears and legislators insisted on having the event called off.

Mugarra said over 8,000 foreigner tourists have already booked tickets for the event but legislators wouldn’t listen, they want the event cancelled sighting immorality they say takes place at Nyege Nyege and protecting their children.

While speaking about the event, former Minister and Tororo women legislator Sarah Opendi says the event is a breeding ground for immorality yet it’s purposely for grown ups not school going children who reported back to school yesterday.
