Parliament’s director of communications Chris Obore has scoffed at those celebrating the death of Gen Elly Tumwine who breathed his last yesterday from a Nairobi hospital in the neighborhood Kenya.
.@ChrisObore1: People are mocking the death of Gen. Tumwine for the work he was doing as a public servant. If there's no graveyard in your family, you mock the death of Gen. Tumwine.#NBSMorningBreeze #NBSUpdates pic.twitter.com/UTyRyB52JP

Upon his demise, a section of Ugandans kicked off celebrations yet in the African culture, death is not celebrated even if it has happened to your enemy but rather grieve with the family.
However, this website has picked a few things that might have sparked unfriendly act among a section of Ugandans.
As known to many, General Tumwine was proud of the bush war that costed him his eye and he would always remind every one that “they fought” it nearly became a song he would have recorded and this some times didn’t go well to some people.
Secondly, in the 2020 November chaos where over 60 were killed, hundreds injured and arrested following the arrest of the then National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine in Luuka, the late Tumwine in a press briefing said police had a right to shoot and kill.
“Police has a right to shoot you, kill you if you reach a certain level of violence”- said a tough speaking Elly Tumwine.
This sparked off country wide condemnation why a security minister would dance on the graves of all those Ugandans who were killed in the November chaos. This too might have been the reason why some Ugandans went to a celebratory mood upon the demise of Tumwine.
There was also a time in September 2021 Tumwine reportedly pointed his gun at Cecilia Ogwal in the precincts of parliament when the two had some argument and he was sent to the disciplinary committee but he later denied the allegations.
