The death of Jacob Oulanyah rendered the office of the speaker of parliament vacant and for this matter, parliament held elections of a new speaker last week on Friday and the then Deputy Speaker Anita Among won with a landslide againt opposition joint candidate Asuman Basalirwa who only collected 66 votes.
However, news making rounds indicate that Anita Among who dpeutized Oulanyah for a short period of time before his death and later ascended to replace him at the helm of the legislature has rejected occupying the office that Oulanyah was occupying.
Before occupying the office of the Speaker, Oulanyah reportedly cleaned it by removing every asset that his former senior Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga had in it for the 10 years she was speaker of parliament.
According to news on the move, Anita Among has opted to retain her office of the Deputy speaker which she’s been occupying since last year and instead Thomas Tayebwa who was voted deputy speaker will take up Oulanyah’s office.
She contends that if she takes up the office that Oulanyah was occupying on the 6th floor of the parliamentary building, it would would resurrect her fond memories she shared with Oulanyah.
This has shocked Ugandans, leaving them with questions that answers because her reason is not so bold enough to convince the public on why she’s rejecting to occupy Oulanyah’s office.
