Bobi Wine Blasts Security Agencies For Clobbering Journalists

Military Beating Up Reuters Journalist Akena

The arrest of Bobi wine last year after the Arua fracas sent Uganda in turmoil with protests for his release in most of the major towns of Uganda. In Kampala the #Freebobiwine protests were bloody with fire from Kamwokya to Bweyogerere to Mukono and other city surbubs.

However, as it has and will always be the habit, security agencies beat up journalists who were covering the protests. Among the many who were clobered is a one seasoned Journalist James Akena working with Reuters who was beaten, kicked like a chicken thief in broad day light on the streets of Kampala.

The video when men in Uniform are pouncing Akena went viral and the army came out to brush it off and arrogantly said the video was from Nigeria not Uganda. But reality beats them one year later when an innocent journalist who was beaten while doing his work is confined in a wheel chair.

As many have condemned the act, even the People Power boss who by the time Akena was pounced was in custody and people were protesting for his release has come come to blast the security agencies for not charging any of the men visibly pictured beating a journalist.
