Kyagulanyi Effect: NRM wants presidential aspirants to announce assets

The National Resistance Movement Secretary-General Justine Kasule Lumumba has made proposals that will require presidential candidates declare their assets and liabilities with the Inspector General of Government (IGG) before nomination.

Lumumba made the proposals on Tuesday while appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee that is presently gathering opinions on the five electoral reforms Bills tabled by Attorney General William Byaruhanga.

NRM party also states that every presidential aspirant should announce and file with the Electoral Commission a copy of their campaign budget at the time of nomination.

Lumumba emphasizes that the amendment important in curbing intrusion in the country’s politics by foreign hostile countries or organizations but hurried to add that the candidates should also provide their campaign budgets as well as declare assets and liabilities to IGG

However, Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Sseggona, asked why the NRM party  wants a candidate to be brought under the realm of the leadership code when they are not yet a leaders.

Lumumba’s proposals follows her support for the government proposal to amend the Presidential Elections Act and require candidates to declare their source of funds for financing campaigns
