Milton Obote left four children with Miria Obote and are all boys. These include Jimmy Akena, Tony Akaki who works with the UN, Bishop Eddie Engena Maitum who is a preacher in Kenya and the last born who Museveni recently gave a job to work in ISO.
Akaki and Maitum hate Akena with a passion and have never accepted him to be the heir to their late father. They believe that he was imposed on the throne by late Adoko Nekyon who was the head of Oyima clan.
Maitum wanted to build and operate a church on the vacant plot next to Uganda house but Milton Obote Foundation bosses, including Akena and Miria, blocked him.
He tried to become the area MP when Apac municipality had just been created but Akena fought him in favor of Patrick Ocan.
He stood as an independent but he still lost.
He expected Miria to come to his rescue and rebuke Akena for locking him out of the Apac job but the old woman didn’t fearing reprisals from Akena’s wife Betty Amongi.
Maitum remains frustrated up to this day and despises Akena’s leadership of the UPC party. This is why earlier this year he stood for Kawempe north MP seat as an independent candidate who had nothing to do with the Akena-led UPC.
Maitum and Akaki are also unhappy that Akena and Miria are over influenced by Betty Amongi who they say doesn’t like her husband’s siblings.
When Amongi helped to get Museveni pay up Obote’s benefits as a former president, the two brothers felt excluded and all the blame keeps going to Betty Amongi’s domineering character.
Sometime back, Amongi still got Museveni to fund the renovation of Obote’s house in Kololo along Impala avenue near Nanjing and still Akaki and Maitum were not consulted as their sister in law took their ageing mum for months to live in Protea hotel where Museveni paid all the bills.
The feuding between Akena and his two brothers hasn’t yet exploded in the public space because Mama Miria keeps calming them down by saying that public fights will embarrass the Milton Obote brand.
